Frequently Asked Questions
When can I get my passport or Visa photo taken?
Pictures can be taken anytime during our hours of operation at any Staples location. Please confirm store hours before visiting a Staples location.
How long does it take?
It takes a minute to take the picture and a few minutes to have it ready. You can be in and out of the store in less than 10 minutes! If you are having a photo taken of an infant, please be prepared to spend about 15 to 20 minutes as they take a bit longer to ensure a safe and positive experience for you and your infant.
What should I wear?
White tops and light-coloured tops are not recommended. The passport office requires sufficient contrast between you and the white background. Head coverings (except those worn for religious reasons) are not allowed. Head coverings should also be dark-coloured to provide sufficient contrast. No hats, ball caps or sunglasses in the hair! Please also avoid large and reflective jewelry and earrings. We do not suggest any hair clips or hair accessories for children or adults.
Can I wear my glasses?
We do not recommend that you wear eyeglasses for your passport photos. The passport office will reject a photo for the slightest reflection or glare, even on the frame or rim of your eyeglasses.
What other services do you provide?
We provide photos for Firearm Permits, Work Permits, Security Guard Licenses, Medical Marijuana, Correctional Services, International Driver Permits, US Passports and much more!

Infant and Toddler FAQs
Do you take infant passport photos?
Yes, we are family friendly! We take passport and visa photos for children and babies. Please allow extra time because taking photos of babies can be challenging.
What should my infant wear?
We recommend a onesie or two-piece outfit in a solid, medium-dark colour for contrast and ease of access.
Can infant eyes be closed in a passport photo?
No, unfortunately, the subject in the photo must have ‘eyes open and clearly visible’, even with infants.
Can my infant’s mouth be open in a passport photo?
Yes, if there are no teeth showing. Passport Canada recognizes the difficulty in obtaining a neutral expression of a baby and will allow for some minor variations in this regard. For older infants and toddlers, it is recommended that you bring a snack with you. This allows for photos to be taken while there is a chewing motion occurring.
Can I hold my infant in my lap for the photo?
No part of the parent can be in the photo. Photos must show the infant’s head and shoulders only, and neither the parent or the infant’s hand can appear in the photo. To ensure that the infant is secure, the caregiver will place their hand on the infant’s back and under their clothing.
Infant & Toddler Best Practices

- Bring another adult with you when you bring your child for passport photos. This allows one person to stand behind the photographer and draw the attention of the child, while the other holds the child in position. A small, favourite toy is also recommended for the other person to hold behind the camera during the photo shoot (something that rattles is often good to draw attention).

- For older infants and toddlers, it can be helpful to bring small, chewable snacks. This coaxes the child to close their mouth as they are chewing, making a closed mouth passport photo easier to obtain.
